What’s in my Work Station?!

Peace Beautiful People! SoulQueenWu in the house!* waving my hands in the air like I just don’t care* I’ve recently shared my creative process on my IG story for my “I AM: Affirmation Workshop” closing ceremony! (click here for more info). I recieved A BUNCH of questions and inquiries. I decided to create a blog post answering most questions and providing links to all the materials I used to get this project done!

I plan on coming out with the I.A.H. Collection in 2019. I spent about 2 months doing a bunch of research on heat pressing, the Cricut, vinyl etc. Once I felt comfortable with what I knew I made a few investments to aid me in the beginning stages of getting my business off the ground. I’ll eventually get into mass production when I can afford it. As for now, it is best that I do it myself until I get these pockets UP! I will make do with what I have until I can do more! Here’s what’s in my workstation!

What would Jesus Do?

image38   As a 23 year old young woman who recently decided to follow Christ whole heartedly I find myself asking many questions. It doesn’t help that I am a Seminary student pursuing my Masters of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary. For some reason I took a break from my studies and began to watch videos of young black boys being gunned down by police officers who assumed they were a threat. As I watched videos of bodies dropping and the contentment of the officers in thier duties my heart dropped. As I read the comments of racist people standing in agreement with the atrocities my body became overwhelmed with heat. Then I clicked the videos of the mothers of these victims and soon felt tears running down my eyes. After that I watched 2 videos that led to this post. They were documentaries of Emmet Till. A young man who was brutally tortured and murdered by two white men for speaking to a white woman. I swore deep down in my soul I heard the wailing of his mother.

** FILE ** This family handout photograph taken in Chicago, date unknown, shows Mamie Till Mobley and her son, Emmett Till, whose lynching in 1955 became a catalyst for the civil rights movement.

I felt her misunderstanding, her fighting with God to make sense of something that makes no sense. I felt her agony. I saw the eyes of young children forced into slavery, chained to one another anticipating rape, molestation, whippings, harrassment, starvation. I felt it. Deep in my whole heart and my entire body became consumed with the reality that I am an African Woman and am so deeply rooted in this fight that my faith in Jesus will not allow me to suppress.

The men that killed Emmet Till were found not guilty and I tried my best to figure out in what way can what I’ve learned from my religious practice make this alright. What is on the brighter side? How can we turn this negative into a positive? Where’s God in all of this? The final question I asked was what would Jesus do? I mean really. What do you really think would have been done if Jesus Christ our Lord and savior was sitting in that courtroom fully aware that those men were guilty, fully aware that our African ancestors were wailing in the skies, fully aware of the pain that deeply resonated in Emmet Till’s mother’s heart. Knowing that this act is unjustifiable, knowing that this pain will last until this day and more. What would Jesus have done? I thought about it for some time and maybe in this moment my ignorance fails me or I’m wise enough to admit it but I simply don’t know. a34286e47d3f1b1cd872e325b39f53da

What I do know is that I am fighting a fight that I did not ask for. God has allowed my ancestors cry to be so loud in my soul that I have no choice but to listen. The Jesus I met told me to fight for truth until the death of me. Christ told me not to suppress the way I feel for the sake of my religion or my contentment. Christ said love is not blind but it is wide awake, aware and lives in the tension. I asked where do we go from here and I am still waiting on my answer.I’d like for you who practice a Christian faith to ask yourselves what would Jesus do in the Emmet Till situation? What do you really really think Jesus would have done and ask yourself if you are okay with that response?

I am simply a young African Woman who wants to be FREE.

Fight for death for truth, and the Lord God will fight for you. Sirach 4:28

“Destination: Nowhere: What Do You Mean Let’s See Where this Goes?!”

In light of subconsciously embarking on a “CHOOSE YOURSELF” journey, I’ve reflected and realized it is beneficial, powerful, overwhelming, life changing, uncomfortable, possible and divine. This “CHOOSE YOURSELF” journey will be covered on a later date but please Stay Tuned!

As you can see by the title “Destination NOWHERE: What Do You Mean Let’s See Where This Goes?”, I have had enough of a “let’s see where this goes” situations. In the midst of reflecting on my celibacy for the last four years I found myself investing in quite a few men who were very sure about wanting to be intimate with me but not so sure about wanting to actually be in a relationship with me. Although there are a variety of ways in which a “let’s see where this goes” situation occurs I’d like to shed light on the things that took place in my “Destination: NOWHERE” experiences.

I’d meet a guy who of course has a good head on his shoulders, aspires much for himself, has a plan on how to get there, heartfelt, handsome, intriguing, well put together, you know all the good stuff that’ll make you consider a future with someone. I will always be an advocate for taking things slow. I think it is important to feel someone out before committing to them. Considering the term “let’s see where this goes” I understand that everyone is not meant for everybody and that is something you can only figure out in time. What wasn’t an issue before but is an issue now is the fact that taking things slow required way too much of my investment. The investments included my time, my energy, my emotions, my prayers, my patience, sex (when I was sexually active), obligation, worries etc. The fact was that I’d agree to take things slow, I’d agree to see where things go assuming that the destination would be a “boyfriend girlfriend relationship” but it was never specified. A guy would literally treat me like his girlfriend, I’d invest in him as if he was my boyfriend, we would cross boundaries far beyond “just seeing where things go” and when I would ask “what are we doing ? it would be a problem. All of sudden he’s not ready for that kind of commitment. After months, even years of investment (for a lot of us) he still doesn’t know. HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW?!?!nick-young-confused-face-300x256_nqlyaa.png

The common excuses:

“It’s too soon”

“I’ve been hurt before”

“I’m not ready”

“I don’t want to hurt you”

“I’m not where I want to be”

“I don’t want you to be my girl but I want to treat you like my girl and when you start embracing the role of a girlfriend I want to reiterate to you that you were never my girlfriend in the first place. By the way can I just intercede in your life making promises of commitment one sweet day, become apart of your daily routine, change your life, give false hope, lead you on, require so much from you and when I feel like it leave with not much of a valid explanation because you know I’m still trying to figure this out” -___-

etc. etc. etc. Stating these reasons doesn’t mean they aren’t valid but what it does mean is that when you receive these responses it will ultimately effect your peace of mind, your happiness, your plans, and your focus and you have got to snap out of GAH GAH LAND, CHOOSE YOURSELF AND DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU.

sad-black-woman.jpgI am very much aware of how awful these “Destination: NOWHERE” situations can turn out, from both my friends’ and my own experiences. As hard as it may be you have to let potential go, consider reality and make the best decision for you and your life.

There are a variety of dating tips out there from many different perspectives. I’m more than sure that you can find answers to a lot of your questions concerning this topic, reading all that you already know but incase it hasn’t touched your heart to stimulate a difference I hope that these pointers serve you some justice. These tips do not have to be considered in any order, you don’t have to agree, you don’t have to make a decision about your situation today, just consider it, and it if doesn’t apply let it fly.

  • Set boundaries: boundaries.pngMake a list for yourself. What are you willing to do for a guy you are “getting to know”, a man you are in a relationship with, and a man that is your husband. Understand that you may not be able to stick to these boundaries but have them, try your best to stick by them and pray that God gives you the strength to fight your flesh. You are a gem, what you have to offer is precious. IT IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY.
  • PRAY ABOUT IT!woman_praying.jpgI know it is a touchy, vulnerable place and a lot of us like myself, ironically want God’s hand in every other aspect of our lives except for our love life. Prayer helps, you may not get what you want to hear and you may not be obedient to what you receive but when dealing with the matters of your heart it is very important to do all that it takes by any means to protect yourself.
  • Remember: YOU DO NOT OWE ANYONE ANYTHING. I have a tendency to subconsciously obligate myself to people in general. I always assumed that I must comply with whatever it is that people required of me and if not the world would end. Thankfully that is not the truth. You don’t have to do anything you do not want to do especially if there’s no valid destination being specified.
  • The ball is in your court. There is an illusion that has been created, we are told that we should follow someone’s lead but in light of these “Destination: NOWHERE” situations you better get your own navigator together, pray for discernment, judge your situation accordingly, and lead yourself in the right direction even if it means you may have to leave someone behind.
  • When you reflect on your list of what you are willing to do for your partner in different stages ask yourself how much have you compromised? How far have you gone with no real idea of where you are going with this person? If it is too much, be real with yourself and do what you truly know is best for you.
  • Don’t over spiritualize, dramatize, analyze etc. the situation. In most cases it is what it is, so what are you going to do about it?
  • COMMUNICATE!!!! ASK QUESTIONS, VERBALIZE WHAT YOU WANT, SPEAK YOUR PIECE! Pay attention to the responses with a sober mind that isn’t diluted with potential. Stand by what you want and what you know you deserve. DO NOT SETTLE.o-MAN-WOMAN-TALKING-facebook.jpg
  • Step into these situations knowing that it is not the end all be all for you. I think we compromise so much because we think “This is It!”. That’s not the case. There is hope. There are options out there. Getting to know someone does not require your mind, body, soul, a house, your paycheck, a child etc. It’s not that deep. Don’t make it that deep not if you guys are just “figuring things out”. NO! NO! NO! NO! NOOO!

I think the best way to avoid a “let’s see where this goes: Destination: NOWHERE” situation is to remember to Love yourself, to choose yourself, set boundaries, and remember that there are options. The Most High God who works miracles, signs, and wonders has more for you than someone who doesn’t know what to do with you, or someone who doesn’t appreciate the true gem that you are. God Bless You and I hope this helps! Feel free to check out the video and Holla At A Playa!tumblr_inline_npzsrzO1hF1r8qnkq_500.png

It all started my freshman year at Lincoln University PA. On one beautiful summer day I saw Barricat Ladipo ,who is now a professional stylist (IG: barriemeingold) wearing leggings but the were HIGH ABOVE THE WAIST! She was the catalyst to an addiction that I’d rather not quit…EVER! I LOVE HIGH WAIST PANTS. They’re one of my most favorite things in the world and they make me happy! They’re also great for girls like me who have a small waist and a big bottom. I’m not much of a fan of regular jeans because if they reached past my butt the pan1waist was to big and if they could actually fit my waist it wouldn’t get past my butt lol. The discovery of high waisted pants has definitely changed my life and I AM IN LOVE! The video below is an introduction to my growing collection of high waist pants with a total of 10 pairs! Below the video are sites linked to the pants and other sites that you may be interested in! They look great on any figure, I hope this helps!

Hey Beautiful People! This my latest episode of “Lets Talk About It”! In this video I’m talking to Jay (IG: @mr_jayhill) about a few things I know some females worry about. I know I used to hesitate to ask alot of questions because I assumed I’d push someone I was dealing with away. Thankfully I grew up and realized that communicating is the most important thing you can do in any kind of relationship (friendship, intimate, professional etc.) NOW YOU DO NOT HAVE TO AGREE WITH EVERYTHING HE IS SAYING. He made a lot of great and considerable point but you don’t have to agree.  There is no pressure. We’re two people having a conversation about things we all kind of wonder about! This is my second video with another person. By the grace of God there will be a lot more videos of me talking to a bunch of people covering a huge variety of topics so STAY TUNED! Again thank you fo all the support! All Love SoulQueenWu

Hey Beautiful People, SoulQueenWu Here! I miss you :). As some of you may know I have been celibate now for 4 years and a few months. I am very proud of myself and it is honestly one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life! It’s great, it’s commendable, you gain a new perspective on many things and it aids in taping into your truest self. You know…. all of that is cool but there are two facts I want you all to be aware of: 1. I’m not having sex 2. I want to have it! lol

Wanting to be celibate and engaging in this walk of celibacy does not rid you of the desire to have sex. We are sexual beings as humans and you should never beat yourself up for being human (there is a right time and place for alot of the things we desire). To be quite honest, my hormones are on 1000, I miss sex, I like sex, and some days I would like to have it. The reality is as you grow in this walk you become better at fighting your urges and the desire but based on MY EXPERIENCE, sex is still something I’d like to have, I’m just committed to this walk that has shown itself to be what is best for me.

Based of my experiences and the many messages I’ve been receiving I decided to shed some light on what I’ve learned (DISCLAIMER: This is information I’ve gained based on my own experiences). I realized this lifestyle is a tad bit overly fabricated, glorified and not too many people touch base on the reality of what it entails. It’s not easy to stop doing something you are used to doing but with TIME you’ll get accustomed to it! So whether you are a beginner, a veteran, or even interested in celibacy, I hope this helps.I think I owe it to myself and to you all to be real with you. Below are some pictures from the of the Pros & Challenges Covered  and the actual Video. If you have any questions, comments. or concerns never hesitate to holla at a playa *heart emoji* “Okay GURLFREEEND!”

Im Writing A Book: 101 Ways To Not Give Up On Yourself

wasaba 2~Scroll to the bottom for the Survey~

Hello Beautiful People! Im writing a book called “101 Ways To Not Give Up On Yourself”. This is book is compiled of the wisdom I’ve gained though many situations where I assumed I simply could not make it through. I know what it feels like to want to dies, to feel misunderstood, to unsatisfied with life, to have my heartbroken, to lose people that I loved dearly, to let go of something you never wanted to let etc. Trust me I understand! By the grace of God all though I had my moments of weakness it is the undying strength that is embedded in me that kept me holding on. The reality is that this too shall come to pass and I want to share with everyone that it will. The TRUTH is the EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY! Below is an exerpt from the book Rule No.57 which says Just Make it Through The Night:

“. . . The answer is YES. The fact is these thoughts will come but the TRUTH is that they do not have to claim ownership over your life. It may be hard to internalize the TRUTH that this too shall come to pass but it will. Sometimes it may seem like it is too much to handle and you just might not be able to think yourself into sanity and that is okay. You do not have to figure it all out today, tonight, or tomorrow. What I suggest to you is that you take things one day at a time. Whenever you reach the brink of giving up on your beautiful, amazing, talented, divine, important self simply give yourself the goal of just making it through that night. You’ll be surprised at how far you’ve reached passed what thought you were capable of reaching.”

Iron Sharpens Iron

Hello all, I wish I didn’t go on hiatus as much as I do but it’s like after I post a video my life takes these very extreme twists and turns. This video in a nutshell is my attempt to summarize what I’ve been going through in a way that allows me to condense these last few months in about 6 to 7 minutes. As you know for the past six years I’ve poured out to you all some of my gifts, advice, life as God has allowed me to! Now I come before you all in need of something in return. I hate to be one of those people who always ask for things in return but I hope that I am not asking for too much. I am going through a very tough time in my life and it seems as if it is only going to get harder. I believe in God with my whole soul and I know that wherever God leads me he will provide for me with everything I need. And I need you. In the night or morning I ask just ask that you allow my name to slip through your prayers. Pray for my mind, my strength, my anointing, my family, and my academics. I believe in love, I believe in truth, I believe in being unapologetic about who you are, I believe in God, I believe in who God says you all are, and I believe that your prayers are effective. I believe that your words are precious in God’s eyes and I will be honored and humbled to know that in your sacred time of prayer I am mentioned. I will continue to prayer for you and if you have any prayer request I’ll be more than happy to pray for you. God Bless you All Love!

Depression and Suicide: My Story

Hello Beautiful People welcome to my blog. As some of you may know I aspire to be a spiritual mentor and I use social media as a platform to educate, motivate, and encourage people. I have been receiving a lot of messages about depression and suicidal thoughts. The hardest thing about counseling someone on this touchy topic is that every word of advice is very much easier said than done. What I strongly encourage is to seek professional help, counseling, call hotlines, read, write, breathe, forgive yourself, forgive others, pray, have faith and take it one day at a time.

PicMonkey Collage

I decided to open up about my story and give you all some insight on how and why I am an advocate for self-love, optimism, God and faith. Below is a video about how I dealt with my suicide and depression during my teenage years. Everyday it is a battle but with God I always win. Essentially I am happy, I am blessed, God Loves me and God has been my friend, father, comforter, counselor and my hope. I genuinely pray that my story helps you in any way possible. Just believe. I believe that there is a little truth inside of us that says don’t give up, better days are coming, there’s more for me, and I encourage all of us to tap into in and let it become a louder voice so that we may live a fulfilling life. God Bless You!! ALL LOVE!

Styling My Yarn Braids (faux locs)

Hello Beautiful People! This is a video of me styling my yarn braids (faux locs) Before the wrap around method came about this  hairstyle was considered the initial replica of locs. Both styles are absolute Great! I love this Look! I actually almost feel like I’ve been growing this hair out of my scalp for years! lol.

PicMonkey Collage

Before you get into the video hair are few tips!

– I wrapped my hair around two nikes boxes in a size 6.5. There are six strands per braid. These braids are about 20 inches long. I suggest you wrap until each roll of yarn is done then begin braiding.

-Make sure your hair is washed conditioned and moisturized! I used Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner and 100% Virgin Cocoanut Oil.

-Make sure you have something to keep yourself occupied (music, movies, company etc.) because this hairstyle takes a long long loooonnng time to execute. It took me about two days to do this style with the help of my sister kadia (who actually appears in the video!).

– Because this hairstyle is made of yarn it has a tendancy to dry your hair out. I wouldn’t recommend you leave this style in for more than a month and a half. Make sure you mositurizze your hair often with hair oil. It helps tp out your hair oil in a spray bottle to get the oil around your scalp evenly.

– Be prepared to fall in love! Because I sure did!

PicMonkey Collage2

Here’s a simple picture collage of one of the styles in the video.

PicMonkey Collage4

The Steps are pretty simple:

1. Section off some hair in the middle of your face.

2. Gather the hair in do a 3 part (traditional) braid.

3. Take the braid you just completed, place your hand on the front of the braid and bring it to the back of your head with the other.

4 & 5. Grab the remaining braided strands from each side and use them to tie a knot in the back of your head. You’ll have to tie a regular knot about to times for security.

6. BE CUTE! 🙂

I hope you like it! Please check out My Youtube channel for more videos. There’s alot in store for you all! I have two other videos that show my styling my braided hairstyles. My YouTube is SoulQueenWu! Never hesitate to give me any feedback, comments, questions and suggestions are always helpful! God Bless you. Thanks for visiting!

All Love- SoulQueenWu
